Steps for Life Saving in Pandemic: sharīʿa and Scientific Perspective

Abstract

Lockdown, quarantine, social distancing and other necessary steps during the pandemic of Covid-19 aim to preserve the human life. Preservation of life is one of the objectives of Islamic Shariah. Precautionary and necessary measures to save the life of human being are highly recommended in Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions(Hadith). Imposing these steps by the government is sometimes condemned and opposed by many clergies which led layman to confusion resulted in problems to control the critical situation owing to pandemic. What is the fact of matter? are there solid grounds and arguments in shariah which provide guidance in such bad situation. The study is carried out to answer these questions and explore the fact of the subject matter. All major steps for the control and prevention of Covid- 19 contagion are studied and analyzed in shariah as well as scientific perspective.
